米軍、シリアでの劣化ウラン弾使用を認める

１）今まで米軍は、シリアにおいて劣化ウラン弾が使われることは ない、と主張してきていましたが、 少なくとも2015年11月18日と23日、シリアにおけるA- 10攻撃機による爆撃において5,100発の劣化ウラン弾（約1 500kgの劣化ウランを含有）を使用していたことを認めた、と いうニュースです。今回確認された使用は二日間の攻撃に限的され たものですが、これ以外にも使用されたのではないかと懸念されま す。

２）また、今月上旬、ICBUWとPAXは、2003年のイラク 戦争において米英両国が使用した認めている劣化ウラン弾（計11 5トンの劣化ウランを含有）のうち、対戦車・装甲車に用いられた のは約三分の一でしかなく、その多くは、建造物なども含む様々な 標的に対して幅広く使用されていたことを明らかにしています。

３） なお、現在開催中の国連総会では、六回目となる「劣化ウラン問題 関連」決議が提案されています。第一委員会、総会での投票が注目 されます。

The US has finally confirmed that it has fired DU ammunition Syria, after it had earlier stated that the weapons would not be used. US Central Command (CENTCOM) has acknowledged that DU was fired on two dates - the 18 and 23 November 2015. Between the strikes on the two dates, 5,100 rounds of 30mm DU ammunition were used by A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft. This equates to 1,524kg of DU. CENTCOM said that the ammunition was selected because of the “nature of the targets”.

The analysis in this report reveals that in 2003 DU use was widespread across Iraq. While the majority of strikes were outside or on the outskirts of heavily populated areas, those strikes that were in towns and cities often saw proportionately more DU used. Significantly, the data confirm that only 33% of the A-10s’ targets were tanks or armoured vehicles, with the weapons also used against light vehicles, buildings and unmounted troops.
